Psalms 73 - 74

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Psalm 74

74 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.
12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.
16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.
18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.
19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.
22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

73 सचमुच परमेश्वर इस्राएल के प्रति भला है, और उन लोगों के प्रति भी जो शुद्ध मन के हैं।

2 परन्तु मैं तो लगभग हार गया था, मेरे कदम लगभग फिसलने ही वाले थे।

3 क्योंकि जब मैं दुष्टों का कल्याण देखता था, तो मैं मूर्खों से ईर्ष्या करता था।

4 क्योंकि उनकी मृत्यु में कोई बंधन नहीं होता, परन्तु उनका बल दृढ़ होता है।

5 वे अन्य मनुष्यों के समान संकट में नहीं पड़ते, और न ही वे अन्य मनुष्यों के समान कष्ट में पड़ते हैं।

6 इसलिये अभिमान उन्हें जंजीर की नाईं घेरे रहता है, और हिंसा उन्हें वस्त्र की नाईं ओढ़ लेती है।

7 उनकी आंखें चर्बी से भरी हुई हैं, और उनके मन की इच्छा से अधिक है।

8 वे भ्रष्ट हैं, और अत्याचार के विषय में दुष्टता से बातें करते हैं; वे घमण्ड से बातें करते हैं।

9 वे आकाश के विरुद्ध मुंह करते हैं, और उनकी जीभ पृथ्वी पर चलती है।

10 इसलिये उसके लोग यहां लौट आते हैं, और उनके लिये पूरा प्याला पानी निचोड़ा जाता है।

11 और वे कहते हैं, परमेश्वर कैसे जानता है? और क्या परमप्रधान में ज्ञान है?

12 देखो, ये दुष्ट लोग हैं, जो संसार में समृद्ध होते हैं; वे धन-संपत्ति में वृद्धि करते हैं।

13 मैंने व्यर्थ ही अपने हृदय को शुद्ध किया है, और अपने हाथों को निर्दोषता से धोया है।

14 क्योंकि दिन भर मैं त्रस्त रहता हूँ, और हर सुबह मुझे ताड़ना मिलती है।

15 यदि मैं ऐसा कहूँ, तो मैं ऐसा ही कहूँगा; देखो, मैं तुम्हारे वंश के विरुद्ध अपराध करूँगा।

16 जब मैंने यह जानना चाहा, तो यह मेरे लिए बहुत दुःखद था;

17 जब तक मैं परमेश्वर के पवित्रस्थान में नहीं गया, तब तक मुझे उनका अन्त समझ में नहीं आया।

18 निश्चय ही तूने उन्हें फिसलन भरी जगहों में रखा है; तूने उन्हें विनाश में डाल दिया है।

19 वे कैसे क्षण भर में उजाड़ हो गए हैं! वे भय से पूरी तरह भस्म हो गए हैं।

20 जैसे स्वप्न जागने पर दिखाई देता है; वैसे ही हे यहोवा, जब तू जागेगा, तब तू उनकी छवि को तुच्छ जान लेगा।

21 इस प्रकार मेरा हृदय दुःखी हुआ, और मेरी नसें चुभ गईं।

22 मैं कितना मूर्ख और अज्ञानी था: मैं तेरे सामने पशु के समान था।

23 फिर भी मैं निरन्तर तेरे साथ हूँ: तूने मुझे अपने दाहिने हाथ से थाम रखा है।

24 तू अपनी सम्मति से मेरा मार्गदर्शन करेगा, और उसके बाद मुझे महिमा में ले जाएगा।

25 स्वर्ग में तेरे सिवा मेरा और कौन है? और पृथ्वी पर तेरे सिवा मुझे कोई नहीं चाहिए।

26 मेरा शरीर और मेरा हृदय हार गए हैं: परन्तु परमेश्वर मेरे हृदय की शक्ति और सदा के लिए मेरा भाग है।

27 क्योंकि देख, जो तुझ से दूर हैं, वे नाश हो जाएँगे: तूने उन सब को नाश कर दिया है जो तुझ से व्यभिचार करते हैं।

28 परन्तु परमेश्वर के समीप जाना मेरे लिये अच्छा है: मैंने यहोवा परमेश्वर पर भरोसा रखा है, कि मैं तेरे सब कामों का वर्णन करूँ।

74 हे परमेश्वर, तूने हमें सदा के लिए क्यों त्याग दिया है? तेरे चरागाह की भेड़ों के विरुद्ध तेरा क्रोध क्यों भड़क रहा है?

2 अपनी मण्डली को स्मरण कर, जिसे तूने बहुत पहले मोल लिया था; अपनी विरासत की छड़ी को, जिसे तूने छुड़ाया है; यह सिय्योन पर्वत, जिस पर तू रहता था।

3 सदा के उजाड़ की ओर अपने पांव बढ़ा, यहां तक कि उन सब कामों को भी जो शत्रु ने पवित्रस्थान में दुष्टता से किए हैं।

4 तेरे शत्रु तेरी मण्डलियों के बीच में गरजते हैं; वे चिन्हों के लिए अपने झंडे खड़े करते हैं।

5 एक आदमी की प्रसिद्धि इसलिए थी क्योंकि उसने घने पेड़ों पर कुल्हाड़ी चलाई थी।

6 लेकिन अब वे कुल्हाड़ियों और हथौड़ों से उसकी नक्काशी को तुरंत तोड़ देते हैं।

7 उन्होंने तेरे पवित्रस्थान में आग लगा दी है, उन्होंने तेरे नाम के निवासस्थान को जमीन पर गिराकर उसे अपवित्र कर दिया है।

8 उन्होंने अपने दिलों में कहा, आओ हम उन्हें एक साथ नाश करें: उन्होंने देश में परमेश्वर के सभी आराधनालयों को जला दिया है।

9 हम अपने चिन्हों को नहीं देखते: अब कोई भविष्यद्वक्ता नहीं रहा: न ही हमारे बीच कोई ऐसा है जो जानता हो कि कब तक।

10 हे परमेश्वर, विरोधी कब तक निन्दा करेगा? क्या शत्रु सदा तेरे नाम की निन्दा करेगा?

11 तू अपना हाथ, अर्थात् अपना दाहिना हाथ क्यों हटा लेता है? उसे अपनी छाती से उखाड़ ले।

12 क्योंकि परमेश्वर मेरा प्राचीन राजा है, जो पृथ्वी के बीच उद्धार का कार्य करता है।

13 तूने अपनी शक्ति से समुद्र को विभाजित किया: तूने जल में अजगरों के सिर तोड़ दिए।

14 तूने लिव्यातान के सिर टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिए, और उसे जंगल में रहनेवाले लोगों को भोजन के रूप में दे दिया।

15 तूने झरने और बाढ़ को काट दिया: तूने विशाल नदियों को सुखा दिया।

16 दिन तेरा है, रात भी तेरी है; तूने प्रकाश और सूर्य को तैयार किया है।

17 तूने पृथ्वी की सारी सीमाएँ निर्धारित की हैं: तूने ग्रीष्मकाल और शीतकाल बनाए हैं।

18 हे यहोवा, शत्रु ने निन्दा की है, और मूर्ख लोगों ने तेरे नाम की निन्दा की है।

19 हे अपने कबूतर के प्राण को दुष्टों की भीड़ को मत दे: अपने दीन-दुखियों की मण्डली को सदा के लिए मत भूल।

20 वाचा का आदर कर, क्योंकि पृथ्वी के अन्धकारमय स्थान क्रूरता के निवासों से भरे हुए हैं।

21 हे उत्पीड़ित लोग लज्जित होकर न लौटें: दीन-दुखियों को तेरे नाम की स्तुति करने दें।

22 हे परमेश्वर, उठ, अपना मुकद्दमा लड़; स्मरण कर कि मूर्ख मनुष्य प्रतिदिन तेरी निन्दा करता है।

23 अपने शत्रुओं की वाणी को मत भूल: तेरे विरुद्ध उठनेवालों का कोलाहल निरंतर बढ़ता जाता है।
