Amos 1 - 2

The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. And he said, The Lord will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

Amos 1

1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
2 And he said, The Lord will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
3 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.
6 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:
7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.
9 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
11 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
13 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:
14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the Lord.

Amos 2

2 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:
2 But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:
3 And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the Lord.
4 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the Lord, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:
5 But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
6 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;
7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name:
8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.
9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
10 Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.
11 And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the Lord.
12 But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.
13 Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves.
14 Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:
15 Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.
16 And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith the Lord.

5 मैं दमिश्क के बेड़ों को भी तोड़ डालूँगा, और आवेन के तराई के निवासियों को और एदेन के घराने के राजदण्डधारी को नाश करूँगा; और अराम के लोग कीर को बन्धुआई में जाएँगे, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।
6 यहोवा यों कहता है, अज्जा के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण, मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूँगा; क्योंकि वे सब लोगों को बन्दी बनाकर ले गए, कि उन्हें एदोम के हाथ पहुँचा दें:
7 परन्तु मैं अज्जा की शहरपनाह पर आग लगाऊँगा, जो उसके महलों को भस्म कर देगी:
8 मैं अश्दोद के निवासियों को और अश्कलोन के राजदण्डधारी को नाश करूँगा, और एक्रोन के विरुद्ध हाथ बढ़ाऊँगा; और पलिश्तियों के बचे हुए लोग नाश हो जाएँगे, परमेश्वर यहोवा की यही वाणी है।
9 यहोवा यों कहता है, सोर के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण, मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूँगा; क्योंकि उन्होंने एदोम के सारे लोगों को बन्धुआई में कर दिया, और भाईचारे की वाचा को स्मरण न रखा:
10 परन्तु मैं सोर की शहरपनाह पर आग भेजूँगा, जो उसके महलों को भस्म कर देगी।
11 यहोवा यों कहता है, एदोम के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण, मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूँगा; क्योंकि उसने तलवार लिए हुए अपने भाई का पीछा किया, और दया करना छोड़ दिया, और उसका क्रोध निरन्तर भड़कता रहा, और उसने अपना क्रोध सदा बनाए रखा:
12 परन्तु मैं तेमान पर आग भेजूँगा, जो बोस्रा के महलों को भस्म कर देगी।
13 यहोवा यों कहता है, अम्मोनियों के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण, मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूँगा; क्योंकि उन्होंने गिलाद की गर्भवती स्त्रियों को फाड़ डाला है, ताकि वे अपनी सीमा बढ़ा सकें:
14 परन्तु मैं रब्बा की शहरपनाह में आग लगाऊंगा, और वह उसके महलों को भस्म कर देगी, युद्ध के दिन में जयजयकार के साथ, बवंडर के दिन में आंधी के साथ:
15 और उनका राजा अपने हाकिमों समेत बन्दी होकर जाएगा, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

2 यहोवा यों कहता है, मोआब के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूंगा; क्योंकि उसने एदोम के राजा की हड्डियों को जलाकर चूना बना दिया था।
2 परन्तु मैं मोआब पर आग भेजूंगा, और वह किर्योत के महलों को भस्म कर देगी; और मोआब हुल्लड़, जयजयकार और नरसिंगे के शब्द के साथ मर जाएगा।
3 और मैं उसके बीच में से न्यायी को नाश करूंगा, और उसके साथ उसके सब हाकिमों को भी घात करूंगा, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।
4 यहोवा यों कहता है, यहूदा के तीन क्या, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूंगा; क्योंकि उन्होंने यहोवा की व्यवस्था को तुच्छ जाना, और उसकी आज्ञाओं को नहीं माना, और अपने झूठ के कारण उन को भटका दिया, जिनके पीछे उनके पूर्वज चलते थे।
5 परन्तु मैं यहूदा पर आग भेजूंगा, और वह यरूशलेम के महलों को भस्म कर देगी।
6 यहोवा यों कहता है; इस्राएल के तीन, वरन चार अपराधों के कारण मैं उसका दण्ड न छोडूंगा; क्योंकि उन्होंने धर्मी को चांदी के मोल और कंगालों को एक जोड़ी जूतियों के मोल बेच डाला;
7 जो कंगालों के सिर पर पड़ी मिट्टी की धूल के लिये हांफते हैं, और नम्र लोगों के मार्ग को मोड़ देते हैं; और एक पुरूष और उसका पिता मेरे पवित्र नाम को अपवित्र करने के लिये एक ही दासी के पास जाते हैं:
8 और वे हर एक वेदियों के पास बन्धक रखे हुए वस्त्रों पर लेटते हैं, और अपने देवता के भवन में दण्डित किए हुए का दाखमधु पीते हैं।
9 तौभी मैं ने उनके साम्हने से एमोरियों को नाश किया, जिनकी ऊंचाई देवदारों के समान और वे बांज वृक्षों के समान बलवान थे; तौभी मैं ने उनके फलों को ऊपर से और उनकी जड़ों को नीचे से नाश किया।
10 और मैं तुम्हें मिस्र देश से निकाल लाया, और एमोरियों के देश के अधिकारी होने के लिये जंगल में चालीस वर्ष तक तुम्हें ले आया।
11 और मैं ने तुम्हारे पुत्रों में से कुछ को भविष्यद्वक्ता और कुछ को नाजीर होने के लिये ठहराया। हे इस्राएलियों, क्या यह बात ऐसी ही नहीं है? यहोवा की यही वाणी है।
12 परन्तु तुम ने नाजीरों को दाखमधु पिलाया, और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं को आज्ञा दी, कि भविष्यद्वाणी मत करो।
13 देखो, मैं तुम्हारे नीचे ऐसे दबा पड़ा हूँ जैसे पूलों से भरी हुई गाड़ी दब जाती है।
14 इस कारण वेग से भागनेवाला नाश हो जाएगा, और बलवान अपना बल न बढ़ा सकेगा, और न वीर अपने आप को बचा सकेगा।
15 न धनुष चलानेवाला खड़ा रह सकेगा, और न फुर्तीला पाँववाला अपने आप को बचा सकेगा, और न घोड़े का सवार अपने आप को बचा सकेगा।
16 और उस दिन वीरों में जो साहसी है, वह नंगा भाग जाएगा, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।
