9 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Proverbs 10

10 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

8 ठट्ठा करनेवाले को न डाँट, ऐसा न हो कि वह तुझ से बैर करे; बुद्धिमान को डाँट, और वह तुझ से प्रेम करेगा।
9 बुद्धिमान को शिक्षा दे, वह और भी अधिक बुद्धिमान होगा; धर्मी को शिक्षा दे, वह अपनी विद्या बढ़ाएगा।

10 यहोवा का भय मानना बुद्धि का आरम्भ है, और पवित्र लोगों का ज्ञान ही समझ है।

11 क्योंकि मेरे द्वारा तेरे दिन बढ़ेंगे, और तेरे जीवन के वर्ष बढ़ेंगे।

12 यदि तू बुद्धिमान हो, तो अपने लिए ही बुद्धिमान ठहरेगा; परन्तु यदि तू तिरस्कार करे, तो उसका दण्ड तू ही भोगेगा।

13 मूर्ख स्त्री शोर मचाती रहती है; वह भोली होती है, और कुछ नहीं जानती।

14 क्योंकि वह अपने घर के द्वार पर, नगर के ऊँचे स्थानों पर एक कुर्सी पर बैठी रहती है,

15 जो कोई भोला है, वह इधर आए; और जो समझ से रहित है, उससे वह कहती है,

17 चोरी का पानी मीठा होता है, और छिपकर खाई हुई रोटी अच्छी लगती है।

18 परन्तु वह यह नहीं जानता, कि वहां मरे हुए पड़े हैं, और उसके अतिथि अधोलोक की गहराइयों में हैं।

10 सुलैमान की नीतिवचन। बुद्धिमान पुत्र पिता को आनन्दित करता है, परन्तु मूर्ख पुत्र माता को दुःख देता है।

2 दुष्टता के भण्डार से कुछ लाभ नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्म मृत्यु से बचाता है।

3 यहोवा धर्मी के प्राण को भूखा नहीं रहने देता, परन्तु दुष्टों का धन वह फेंक देता है।

4 जो आलसी है, वह निर्धन हो जाता है, परन्तु परिश्रमी के हाथ धनी बनाते हैं।

5 जो धूपकाल में बटोरता है, वह बुद्धिमान पुत्र है, परन्तु जो कटनी के समय सोता है, वह लज्जा का कारण बनता है।

6 धर्मी के सिर पर आशीर्वाद होता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का मुंह हिंसा से ढका रहता है।

7 धर्मी की स्मृति धन्य होती है, परन्तु दुष्टों का नाम मिट जाता है।

8 जो हृदय से बुद्धिमान है, वह आज्ञाएँ ग्रहण करेगा, परन्तु जो बकवादी मूर्ख है, वह गिर जाएगा।

9 जो सीधाई से चलता है, वह निश्चय चलता है, परन्तु जो टेढ़ी चाल चलता है, वह प्रगट हो जाता है।

10 जो आँख से आँख मारता है, वह दुःख देता है, परन्तु जो बकवादी है, वह गिर जाता है।

11 धर्मी का मुँह जीवन का सोता है, परन्तु हिंसा दुष्टों के मुँह को ढाँप लेती है।

12 बैर झगड़े को भड़काता है, परन्तु प्रेम सब पापों को ढाँप देता है।

13 समझ रखनेवाले के होठों में बुद्धि पाई जाती है, परन्तु जो समझ से रहित है, उसकी पीठ के लिये छड़ी है।

14 बुद्धिमान लोग ज्ञान को इकट्ठा करते हैं, परन्तु मूर्खों के मुँह से विनाश निकट है।

15 धनी का धन उसका दृढ़ नगर है, परन्तु निर्धनों का विनाश उनकी निर्धनता है।

16 धर्मी का परिश्रम जीवन की ओर ले जाता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का फल पाप की ओर ले जाता है।

17 जो शिक्षा को मानता है, वह जीवन के मार्ग पर है, परन्तु जो डाँट को अस्वीकार करता है, वह भटक जाता है।
18 जो झूठ बोलकर बैर को छिपाता है, और जो निन्दा करता है, वह मूर्ख है।

19 जहाँ बहुत बातें होती हैं, वहाँ पाप नहीं होता, परन्तु जो अपने मुँह को बन्द रखता है, वह बुद्धिमान है।

20 धर्मी की वाणी उत्तम चाँदी के समान है, परन्तु दुष्टों का हृदय तुच्छ है।

21 धर्मी के होठों से बहुतों का पेट भरता है, परन्तु मूर्ख बुद्धि के अभाव में मर जाते हैं।

22 यहोवा का आशीर्वाद धनी बनाता है, और वह उसके साथ दुःख नहीं जोड़ता।

23 मूर्ख को दुष्टता करना अच्छा लगता है, परन्तु समझदार मनुष्य में बुद्धि होती है।

24 दुष्ट का भय उस पर आ पड़ता है, परन्तु धर्मी की अभिलाषा पूरी होती है।

25 जैसे बवण्डर निकल जाता है, वैसे ही दुष्ट नहीं रहता, परन्तु धर्मी सदा स्थिर रहता है।

26 आलसी अपने भेजनेवालों के लिए वैसा ही है, जैसा दाँतों के लिए सिरका और आँखों के लिए धुआँ।

27 यहोवा का भय मानने से आयु बढ़ती है, परन्तु दुष्टों के वर्ष घट जाते हैं।

28 धर्मी की आशा आनन्दित होती है, परन्तु दुष्टों की आशा नाश हो जाती है।

29 यहोवा का मार्ग धर्मी के लिए बल है, परन्तु कुटिल काम करनेवालों का विनाश है।

30 धर्मी कभी न मिटाया जाएगा, परन्तु दुष्ट पृथ्वी पर बसने न पाएँगे।

31 धर्मी के मुँह से बुद्धि निकलती है, परन्तु टेढ़ी जीभ काटी जाएगी।

32 धर्मी के होंठ जानते हैं कि क्या स्वीकार्य है, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुँह से टेढ़ी बातें निकलती हैं।
