Proverbs 5 - 6

My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

Proverbs 5

5 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

Proverbs 6

6 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

5 हे मेरे पुत्र, मेरी बुद्धि की ओर कान लगा, और मेरी समझ की ओर कान लगा।

2 कि तू विवेक को स्मरण रखे, और तेरे वचन ज्ञान की रक्षा करें।

4 परन्तु उसका अन्त नागदौना के समान कड़वा, और दोधारी तलवार के समान तीखा होता है।

6 यदि तू जीवन के मार्ग पर विचार न करे, तो उसके मार्ग ऐसे हैं कि तू उन्हें नहीं जान सकता।

7 इसलिये अब हे बालकों, मेरी सुन, और मेरे मुंह की बातों से मुंह न मोड़।

8 उस स्त्री से दूर हट जा, और उसके घर के द्वार के निकट न जा।

9 ऐसा न हो कि तू अपना आदर दूसरों को दे, और अपने वर्ष क्रूर लोगों को दे।

10 ऐसा न हो कि पराए लोग तेरे धन से तृप्त हो जाएं, और तेरा परिश्रम पराए के घर में हो। 11 और जब तेरा शरीर और मांस नष्ट हो जाए, तब तू विलाप करना,

12 और कहना, मैं ने शिक्षा से कैसा बैर किया, और डांट को कैसा तुच्छ जाना;

13 और अपने शिक्षकों की बात न मानी, और न अपने सिखानेवालों की ओर कान लगाया!

14 मैं मण्डली और सभा के बीच में लगभग सब बुराइयों में पड़ा था।

15 अपने कुण्ड से पानी और अपने कुएँ से बहता हुआ जल पी।

16 तेरे सोते इधर-उधर फैल जाएँ, और सड़कों में जल की नदियाँ बहें।

17 वे केवल तेरे ही हों, और तेरे संग परदेशी न हों।

18 तेरा सोता धन्य हो, और अपनी जवानी की पत्नी के साथ आनन्दित हो।

19 वह प्यारी हिरणी और मनभावनी चिड़िया के समान हो; उसके स्तन तुझे हर समय तृप्त करें; और तू उसके प्रेम से सदा मोहित रहे। 20 और हे मेरे पुत्र, तू क्यों पराई स्त्री पर मोहित हो, और पराई स्त्री से क्यों लिपटा जाए?

21 क्योंकि मनुष्य के मार्ग यहोवा की दृष्टि में हैं, और वह उसके सब कामों पर ध्यान करता है।

22 दुष्ट अपने ही अधर्म के कामों में फँस जाएगा, और वह अपने पापों की रस्सियों से बंधा रहेगा।

23 वह शिक्षा के बिना ही मर जाएगा, और अपनी बड़ी मूर्खता के कारण भटक जाएगा।

6 हे मेरे बेटे, यदि तू अपने मित्र का ज़मानतदार हो, यदि तूने पराए से अपना हाथ मिलाया हो,

2 तू अपने मुँह के वचनों से फँस गया है, तू अपने मुँह के वचनों से फँस गया है।

3 हे मेरे बेटे, अब ऐसा कर, और जब तू अपने मित्र के हाथ में पड़ जाए, तब अपने आप को छुड़ा; जा, अपने आप को नम्र कर, और अपने मित्र का भरोसा रख।

4 अपनी आँखों को नींद न आने दे, और अपनी पलकों को ऊंघने न दे।

5 अपने आप को शिकारी के हाथ से हिरन की नाईं, और चिड़िया की नाईं चिड़िया के हाथ से छुड़ा।

6 हे आलसी, च्यूंटियों के पास जा; उनके काम पर ध्यान दे, और बुद्धिमान हो।

7 उनके पास न तो कोई अगुआ, न कोई निरीक्षक, और न कोई शासक होता है,

8 वे धूपकाल में अपना भोजन जुटाती हैं, और कटनी के समय अपना आहार बटोरती हैं।

9 हे आलसी, तू कब तक सोता रहेगा? तू अपनी नींद से कब उठेगा?

10 बस थोड़ी सी नींद, थोड़ी सी ऊंघ, थोड़ी देर हाथ पर हाथ रखे हुए सोना।

11 इस प्रकार तेरा दरिद्रता यात्री के समान और तेरी अभावग्रस्तता हथियारबंद व्यक्ति के समान आ जाएगी।

12 दुष्ट मनुष्य टेढ़ी-मेढ़ी बातें करता हुआ चलता है।

13 वह आंखों से इशारा करता है, पैरों से बोलता है, उंगलियों से सिखाता है।

14 उसके मन में कपट है, वह निरन्तर बुराई की योजना बनाता है; वह झगड़ा बोता है।

15 इस कारण उस पर विपत्ति अचानक आ पड़ेगी; वह अचानक बिना उपाय के टूट जाएगा।

16 ये छः बातें यहोवा को घृणित लगती हैं, हां, सात बातें उसके लिए घृणित हैं:

17 घमण्डी निगाह, झूठ बोलनेवाली जीभ, और निर्दोष का खून बहानेवाले हाथ,

18 दुष्ट कल्पनाएँ रचनेवाला मन, दुष्टता की ओर दौड़नेवाले पांव,

19 झूठ बोलनेवाला साक्षी, और भाइयों के बीच झगड़ा बोनेवाला।

20 हे मेरे पुत्र, अपने पिता की आज्ञा का पालन कर, और अपनी माता की शिक्षा को न तज।

21 उन्हें अपने हृदय में सदा बान्ध, और अपने गले का हार बना।

22 जब तू चले, तब वह तेरी अगुवाई करेगी, जब तू सोए, तब वह तेरी रक्षा करेगी, और जब तू जागेगा, तब वह तुझ से बातें करेगी। 23 क्योंकि आज्ञा दीपक है, और व्यवस्था ज्योति है, और शिक्षा की डांट जीवन का मार्ग है।

24 कि तुझे बुरी स्त्री से बचाए, और पराई स्त्री की चिकनी-चुपड़ी बातों से बचाए।

25 अपने मन में उसकी सुन्दरता की अभिलाषा मत करो, न ही वह तुम्हें अपनी पलकों से फँसाने पाए।

26 क्योंकि वेश्या के द्वारा मनुष्य रोटी के टुकड़े के पास पहुँचता है, और व्यभिचारिणी अनमोल प्राणों का शिकार करती है।

27 क्या हो सकता है कि कोई अपनी छाती में आग रख ले, और उसके कपड़े न जलें?

28 क्या हो सकता है कि कोई अंगारों पर चले, और उसके पाँव न जलें?

29 इसी प्रकार जो कोई अपने पड़ोसी की स्त्री के पास जाता है, और जो कोई उसे छूता है, वह निर्दोष नहीं ठहरेगा।

30 यदि चोर भूख के मारे अपना पेट भरने के लिए चोरी करे, तो लोग उसे तुच्छ नहीं जानते।

31 परन्तु यदि वह पकड़ा जाए, तो उसे सात गुणा भर देना पड़ेगा; और अपने घर की सारी सम्पत्ति देनी पड़ेगी।

32 परन्तु जो कोई स्त्री से व्यभिचार करता है, वह नासमझ है; जो ऐसा करता है, वह अपना प्राण नाश करता है।

33 वह घायल और अपमानित होगा, और उसका अपमान कभी न मिटेगा।

34 क्योंकि ईर्ष्या मनुष्य का क्रोध है, इसलिए वह प्रतिशोध के दिन दया नहीं करेगा।

35 वह किसी भी छुड़ौती पर ध्यान नहीं देगा, और न ही वह संतुष्ट होगा, चाहे आप बहुत कुछ दें।
