Job 19

Then Job answered and said, How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

19 Then Job answered and said,

5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.
18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

Job 20

20 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.
4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
25 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.

19 तब अय्यूब ने उत्तर दिया,

2 तुम कब तक मेरे प्राण को कष्ट देते रहोगे, और कब तक शब्दों से मुझे टुकड़े-टुकड़े करते रहोगे?

3 तुम ने दस बार मेरी निन्दा की है, और तुम लज्जित नहीं होते कि तुम मेरे सामने अजनबी बन जाते हो।

4 और यदि मैं ने गलती की है, तो मेरी गलती मेरे ही पास रहेगी।

5 यदि तुम सचमुच मेरे विरुद्ध बड़ाई मारोगे, और मेरी निन्दा का बहाना करोगे,

6 तो जान लो कि परमेश्वर ने मुझे गिरा दिया है, और अपने जाल से मुझे घेर लिया है।

7 देखो, मैं अन्याय के विरुद्ध चिल्लाता हूँ, परन्तु मेरी कोई नहीं सुनता; मैं ऊंचे स्वर से चिल्लाता हूँ, परन्तु कोई न्याय नहीं होता।

8 उसने मेरे मार्ग को ऐसा घेरा है कि मैं उस पर से नहीं गुजर सकता, और मेरे मार्गों में अन्धकार कर दिया है।

9 उसने मेरी महिमा छीन ली है, और मेरे सिर से मुकुट छीन लिया है।

10 उसने मुझे चारों ओर से नाश कर दिया है, और मैं चला गया हूँ: और मेरी आशा को उसने वृक्ष के समान उखाड़ फेंका है।

11 उसने मुझ पर अपना क्रोध भड़काया है, और मुझे अपना शत्रु गिनता है।

12 उसके सैनिक इकट्ठे होकर मेरे विरुद्ध अपना मार्ग बनाते हैं, और मेरे निवास के चारों ओर छावनी डालते हैं।

13 उसने मेरे भाइयों को मुझसे दूर कर दिया है, और मेरे परिचित भी मुझसे दूर हो गए हैं।

14 मेरे कुटुम्बी चले गए हैं, और मेरे मित्र मुझे भूल गए हैं।

15 मेरे घर में रहनेवाले और मेरी दासियाँ मुझे परदेशी समझते हैं; मैं उनकी दृष्टि में परदेशी हूँ।

16 मैंने अपने दास को बुलाया, परन्तु उसने मुझे उत्तर नहीं दिया; मैंने अपने मुँह से उससे विनती की।

17 यद्यपि मैं अपने बच्चों के कारण और अपने शरीर के कारण विनती करता हूँ, परन्तु मेरी पत्नी को मेरी साँस अजीब लगती है।

18 हाँ, छोटे बच्चों ने मेरा तिरस्कार किया; मैं उठा, और वे मेरे विरुद्ध बोलने लगे।

19 मेरे सब अंतरंग मित्रों ने मुझ से घृणा की, और जिन से मैं प्रेम करता था, वे मेरे विरुद्ध हो गए हैं।

20 मेरी हड्डियाँ मेरी त्वचा और मांस से चिपक गई हैं, और मैं अपने दाँतों की खाल से बच गया हूँ।

21 हे मेरे मित्रों, मुझ पर दया करो, मुझ पर दया करो; क्योंकि परमेश्वर के हाथ ने मुझे छुआ है।

22 तुम परमेश्वर के समान मुझे क्यों सताते हो, और मेरे शरीर से संतुष्ट नहीं हो?

23 काश मेरे शब्द अब लिखे गए होते! काश वे एक पुस्तक में छपे होते!

24 कि वे सदा के लिए चट्टान में लोहे की कलम और सीसे से खोदे गए होते!

25 क्योंकि मैं जानता हूँ कि मेरा छुड़ानेवाला जीवित है, और वह अंतिम दिन पृथ्वी पर खड़ा होगा:

26 और यद्यपि मेरी त्वचा के बाद कीड़े इस शरीर को नष्ट कर देंगे, फिर भी मैं अपने शरीर में परमेश्वर को देखूँगा:

27 जिसे मैं स्वयं देखूँगा, और मेरी आँखें उसे देखेंगी, और कोई नहीं; यद्यपि मेरी अंतरात्मा मेरे भीतर ही नष्ट हो जाएगी।

28 परन्तु तुम कहोगे, हम उसे क्यों सताएँ, जबकि मामले की जड़ तो मुझमें ही पाई जाती है?

29 तलवार से डरो, क्योंकि क्रोध तलवार की मार लाता है, जिस से तुम जान लो कि न्याय हुआ है।

20 तब नामाती सोपर ने उत्तर दिया,

2 इसलिये मेरे मन में उत्तर देने की इच्छा उत्पन्न हुई, और इसी कारण मैं शीघ्रता करता हूं।

3 मैं ने अपनी निन्दा की रोक सुनी है, और मेरी समझ की आत्मा मुझे उत्तर देने के लिये प्रेरित करती है।

4 क्या तू यह बात नहीं जानता, कि जब से मनुष्य पृथ्वी पर बसा है,

5. की जयजयकार क्षण भर की और पाखण्डी का आनन्द क्षण भर का होता है?

6 चाहे उसका ऐश्वर्य स्वर्ग तक पहुंच जाए, और उसका सिर बादलों तक पहुंच जाए;

7 तौभी वह अपने ही गोबर के समान सदा के लिये नाश हो जाएगा; जो उसे देखेंगे वे कहेंगे, वह कहां है?

8 वह स्वप्न के समान उड़ जाएगा, और फिर न मिलेगा; हां, वह रात के दर्शन के समान भगा दिया जाएगा।

9 जिस आंख ने उसे देखा था, वह उसे फिर न देखेगी; और न उसका स्थान उसे फिर न देखेगा।

10 उसके बच्चे कंगालों को प्रसन्न करने का प्रयत्न करेंगे, और उसके हाथ उनकी सम्पत्ति लौटा देंगे।

11 उसकी हड्डियाँ उसकी जवानी के पाप से भरी हुई हैं, जो उसके साथ धूल में पड़ी रहेंगी।

12 यद्यपि दुष्टता उसके मुँह में मीठी लगती है, यद्यपि वह उसे अपनी जीभ के नीचे छिपाए रखता है;

13 यद्यपि वह उसे छोड़ता नहीं, बल्कि अपने मुँह में रखता है:

14 तौभी उसका भोजन उसकी आँतों में उलट गया है, वह उसके भीतर साँपों का पित्त है।

15 उसने धन निगल लिया है, और वह उसे फिर उगल देगा: परमेश्वर उसे उसके पेट से निकाल देगा।

16 वह साँपों का विष चूस लेगा: साँप की जीभ उसे मार डालेगी।

17 वह नदियों, बाढ़ों, मधु और मक्खन की नदियों को न देखेगा।

18 वह जो परिश्रम करता है, उसे भर देगा, और उसे निगलेगा नहीं; उसकी सम्पत्ति के अनुसार प्रतिपूर्ति होगी, और वह उससे आनन्दित नहीं होगा।

19 क्योंकि उसने गरीबों पर अत्याचार किया और उन्हें त्याग दिया है; क्योंकि उसने उस घर को बलपूर्वक छीन लिया है जिसे उसने बनाया ही नहीं;

20 निश्चय ही उसके पेट में चैन नहीं रहेगा, वह अपनी इच्छा से कुछ भी नहीं बचा सकेगा।

21 उसका कुछ भी भोजन न बचेगा, इसलिए कोई भी मनुष्य अपने माल की खोज नहीं करेगा।

22 जब वह अपने पेट की भूख मिटाने के लिए तरसता है, तब वह संकट में पड़ जाता है; दुष्टों का हर एक हाथ उस पर पड़ता है। 23 जब वह अपना पेट भरने वाला होता है, तब परमेश्वर उस पर अपना क्रोध बरसाता है, और जब वह खाता है, तब उस पर क्रोध की वर्षा करता है।

24 वह लोहे के हथियार से भागता है, और इस्पात का धनुष उसे छेद देता है।

25 वह खींची जाती है, और शरीर से निकलती है; हां, चमकती हुई तलवार उसके पित् से निकलती है: उस पर भय छा जाता है।

26 सारा अंधकार उसके गुप्त स्थानों में छिप जाएगा: एक बिना फूंकी हुई आग उसे भस्म कर देगी; जो उसके डेरे में रह जाएगा, उस पर यह विपत्ति आएगी।

27 आकाश उसके अधर्म को प्रगट करेगा, और पृथ्वी उसके विरुद्ध उठ खड़ी होगी।

28 उसके घर की बढ़ती हुई उपज चली जाएगी, और उसके क्रोध के दिन उसकी सम्पत्ति बह जाएगी।

29 दुष्ट मनुष्य का भाग परमेश्वर की ओर से यही है, और परमेश्वर ने उसे जो भाग दिया है, वही उसका भाग है।
