Genesis 15 - 16

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Genesis 15

15 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

Genesis 16

16 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee.
6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thine hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
7 And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
9 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
11 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.
12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
13 And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.

15 इन बातों के बाद यहोवा का यह वचन दर्शन में अब्राम के पास पहुंचा, कि हे अब्राम मत डर; मैं तेरी ढाल और तेरा बड़ा बड़ा प्रतिफल हूं।
2 अब्राम ने कहा, हे प्रभु, तू मुझे क्या देगा, मैं तो निर्वंश हो गया हूं, और मेरे घर का प्रबंधक वही दमिश्कवासी एलीएजेर है?
3 और अब्राम ने कहा, देख, तू ने मुझे कोई वंश नहीं दिया; और देख, जो मेरे घर में उत्पन्न हुआ है वही मेरा वारिस होगा।
4 और देखो, यहोवा का यह वचन उसके पास पहुंचा, कि यह तेरा वारिस न होगा; परन्तु जो तेरे पेट से निकलेगा वही तेरा उत्तराधिकारी होगा।
5 और उस ने उसे बाहर ले जाकर कहा, स्वर्ग की ओर दृष्टि करके तारागण को बता, क्या तू उन्हें गिन सकता है; और उस ने उस से कहा, तेरा वंश भी वैसा ही होगा।
6 और उस ने यहोवा पर विश्वास किया; और उसने इसे अपने लिये धार्मिकता गिना।
7 और उस ने उस से कहा, मैं यहोवा हूं जो तुझे कसदियोंके ऊर से निकाल लाया, कि तुझे इस देश का अधिक्कारनेी कर दूं।
8 और उस ने कहा, हे प्रभु, मैं किस से जानूं कि मैं उसका वारिस होऊंगा?
9 और उस ने उस से कहा, मेरे लिथे तीन तीन वर्ष की एक कलोर, और तीन वर्ष की एक बकरी, और तीन वर्ष का एक मेढ़ा, और एक पण्डुक, और एक कबूतर का बच्चा ले ले।
10 और उस ने इन सब को अपने पास ले लिया, और बीच में बांट दिया, और एक एक टुकड़े को एक दूसरे के साम्हने रख दिया; परन्तु पक्षियों ने उसे बांट न दिया।
11 और जब पक्षी लोथोंपर झपट पड़े, तब अब्राम ने उनको उड़ा दिया।
12 और जब सूर्य अस्त हो गया, तो अब्राम को गहरी नींद आ गई; और, देखो, घोर अंधकार का भय उस पर छा गया।
13 और उस ने अब्राम से कहा, निश्चय जान ले, कि तेरा वंश पराये देश में परदेशी होकर उनके अधीन हो जाएगा; और वे उनको चार सौ वर्ष तक दुःख देते रहेंगे;
14 और जिस जाति की वे दासत्व करेंगे, उस जाति का भी मैं न्याय करूंगा; और इसके बाद वे बड़ी सम्पत्ति लेकर निकलेंगे।
15 और तू अपने पुरखाओं के पास कुशल क्षेम से जाना; तुम्हें अच्छे बुढ़ापे में दफनाया जाएगा।
16 परन्तु चौथी पीढ़ी में वे फिर यहां आएंगे; क्योंकि एमोरियोंका अधर्म अब तक पूरा नहीं हुआ।
17 और ऐसा हुआ, कि जब सूर्य अस्त हो गया, और अन्धियारा हो गया, तब क्या देखा, कि एक धूआं भट्टी और एक जलता हुआ दीपक उन टुकड़ों के बीच में से होकर गुजरता है।
18 उसी दिन यहोवा ने अब्राम से यह कहकर वाचा बान्धी, कि मैं ने मिस्र की महानदी से परात महानदी तक यह देश तेरे वंश को दिया है।
19 केनियों, कनिज्जियों, और कदमोनियों,
20 और हित्ती, और परिज्जी, और रपाई,
21 और एमोरी, और कनानी, और गिर्गाशी, और यबूसी।

16 सारै अब्राम की पत्नी से उसके कोई सन्तान न हुआ, और हाजिरा नाम उसकी एक मिस्री दासी थी।
2 और सारै ने अब्राम से कहा, सुन, यहोवा ने मुझे जन्म देने से रोका है; मैं तुझ से बिनती करता हूं, कि तू मेरी दासी के पास जा; सम्भव है कि उससे मुझे सन्तान प्राप्त हो जाय। और अब्राम ने सारै की बात सुनी।
3 और अब्राम के कनान देश में दस वर्ष रहने के बाद सारै अब्राम की स्त्री ने अपनी मिस्री दासी हाजिरा को ब्याह लिया, और उसे अपने पति अब्राम को दे दिया, कि वह उसकी पत्नी हो।
4 और वह हाजिरा के पास गया, और वह गर्भवती हुई; और जब उस ने देखा, कि वह गर्भवती हुई है, तो उसकी स्वामिनी उसकी दृष्टि में तुच्छ समझी गई।
5 और सारै ने अब्राम से कहा, मेरा अधर्म तुझ ही पर है; मैं ने अपनी दासी को तेरी गोद में सौंप दिया है; और जब उस ने देखा, कि मैं गर्भवती हो गई हूं, तब मैं उसकी दृष्टि में तुच्छ जाना गया; यहोवा मेरे और तेरे बीच में न्याय करे।
6 परन्तु अब्राम ने सारै से कहा, देख, तेरी दासी तेरे वश में है; जैसा तुझे अच्छा लगे वैसा ही उसके साथ कर। और जब सारै ने उस से कठोरता की, तब वह उसके साम्हने से भाग गई।
7 और यहोवा के दूत ने उसे जंगल में शूर के मार्ग में जल के सोते के पास पाया।
8 और उस ने पूछा, हे सारै की दासी हाजिरा, तू कहां से आई? और तुम कहाँ जाओगे? और उस ने कहा, मैं अपनी स्वामिनी सारै के साम्हने से भागा हूं।
9 और यहोवा के दूत ने उस से कहा, अपक्की स्वामिनी के पास लौट जा, और अपने आप को उसके आधीन कर दे।
10 और यहोवा के दूत ने उस से कहा, मैं तेरे वंश को बहुत बढ़ाऊंगा, यहां तक कि वह बहुतायत के कारण गिना न जाएगा।
11 और यहोवा के दूत ने उस से कहा, सुन, तू गर्भवती है, और तेरे एक पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा, और उसका नाम इश्माएल रखना; क्योंकि यहोवा ने तेरा दुःख सुना है।
12 और वह जंगली मनुष्य होगा; उसका हाथ हर एक मनुष्य के विरूद्ध उठेगा, और हर एक का हाथ उसके विरूद्ध उठेगा; और वह अपने सब भाइयोंके साम्हने वास करेगा।
13 और उस ने यहोवा का नाम जिसने उस से कहा या, कि हे परमेश्वर मुझे देखता है, पुकारकर कहा, क्या मैं ने यहां भी उसकी सुधि ली है जो मुझे देखता है?
14 इस कारण उस कुएं का नाम बिरलाहैरोई रखा गया; देखो, वह कादेश और बेरेद के बीच में है।
15 और हाजिरा से अब्राम को एक पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ: और अब्राम ने अपने बेटे का, जो हाजिरा से उत्पन्न हुआ था, नाम इश्माएल रखा।
16 और जब हाजिरा ने अब्राम से इश्माएल को जन्म दिया, तब अब्राम अस्सी वर्ष का या।
